Friedrich PH14B

With an impressive 13,500 BTUs of cooling power, this portable unit is suitable for living spaces of up to 700 square feet, however we would cap this unit’s range at 650 square feet, as there have been reports of Friedrich possibly over-estimating the range of this model. Unfortunately the maximum airflow and dehumidifying capacity of this unit were not available at the time of this review.

Any informed buyer on the air conditioner market must take efficiency into account when deciding on a unit. Convenience & Design

Should you decide that the heat in your home warrants a new air conditioning unit, the very first thing you must do, is to measure your living space as accurately as possible, also taking into account ceiling height. There are several resources online for calculating how many BTUs your living space therefore requires. Only once you have established a moderately accurate understanding of the size of your living space should you then begin comparing units based upon their convenience and design. Realistically, while convenience is essential to a decent home AC, it does come second to BTU-living space suitability, as if you select a unit with an unsuitable output, you will not receive optimum results, and it may even cost you more than necessary.

Notable Features: LCD Full function wireless remote control / 24-Hour timer / Dual easy-access antimicrobial nylon filters / Exclusive “snap-n-store” hose storage compartment.

Operational Modes / Functions: Fan Only / Dehumidify Only / Heat Mode / Auto.

dB Rating: No exact figure available, although our team can testify to this unit’s quiet operation.

Weight: 53lbs

Dimensions: 25.2″ H x 16.7″ W x 11.3″ D

Help & Support

Fortunately, Friedrich have established themselves as manufacturers of quality home air conditioning appliances for many years now. However, not every brand has such a well-renowned commitment to providing their users with high-quality appliances. This is why you need to guard yourself against manufacturer error, damage in the post, or your device simply giving up on you after a short period of time. That’s why we always advise paying attention to the warranty information tagged onto your device, as well as the additional support resources supplied by the manufacturer.

Warranty: 1-Year parts, 5-years sealed system limited warranty.

Support Resources: Representative contactable via email or telephone. / Tutorial videos available on the official company website alongside detailed FAQs, and downloadable user literature.

Verdict

The Friedrich P08S is a great little portable air conditioner. However, it does have its issues unfortunately. The low Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of this unit is regrettable, as is the fact that we were unable to uncover any information regarding any safety certifications relating to this product at the time of this review. However, forgiving these details, the Friedrich P08S is fully capable of getting the job done within the range of its estimated range.

Friedrich 14,500 BTU

The most powerful Friedrich unit to be included in our Friedrich Air Conditioner Review, the Friedrich 14,500 BTU in-wall air conditioner takes the last spot on our list. Firstly, it bears stating out right that this unit is by no means “cheap”. In fact, it’s pretty expensive, with a price-tag of $999.00. By asking for such a hefty sum of money, Friedrich places a single thought in everyone’s mind, including ours at first; is it worth it? At first, we were skeptical, but having assessed this unit, we can safely say yes, yes it is. For a start, this unit is suitable for servicing a massive 700 square feet of living space, while providing a maximum airflow of 290CFM, allowing for quick air circulation, and spread of cooling effect. Continue reading below for more information.

Efficiency & Certifications

The efficiency of a device is of utmost importance when considering investing in a new air conditioning unit. The better a unit performs with regard to efficiency, the less cash you will be forced to fork out to keep it running. You can trust us when we say; you may not feel the savings at first, but you’ll certainly see the benefit after an extended period of time. Further, we always advise keeping an eye out for any certifications a unit may have earned. This especially applies for safety-related certs, as it allows the user peace-of-mind, which you cannot put a price on.

Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): 9.3

Energy Star Certified: N/A

Safety Certification(s): Certified through Friedrich’s UL-Certified lab.

Performance Certification(s):  N/A

Convenience & Design

Before considering a product’s convenient features, we strongly advise any potential buyers to acquire an approximate measurement of the living space in which they intend to install their unit. This is vital for calculating how many BTUs of cooling power are necessary to adequately service your home. Too much, or too little, will lead to inefficient unit performance, with some features and effects put off by the room size. In addition to this, if you select a unit with a much higher BTU output than required, the unit will not dehumidify the space properly, and will actually cost you far more to run, for less performance quality.

Notable Features: Full Function Wireless Remote Control / 24-Hour Timer / “Smart” Fans (will maintain a desired temperature by adjusting their speed according to temperature conditions in the room).

Operational Modes / Functions: Energy Saver Mode.

dB Rating: N/A

Weight: 119lbs

Dimensions: 15.8″ H x 26.5″ W x 22″ D

Note: The wall master sleeve is required for installation of this unit, and is sold separately to the unit. However, Fedders A&B sleeves are suitable, although the Fedders B sleeve requires a BAK accessory kit.
