A common misconception with regard to air conditioning units is that the strongest is automatically the best for your home. However, this logic will undoubtedly lead to you overspending on a unit that in reality, you do not need. The strongest of units is essential for catering to a large living space, however, if your living space does not have the square footage demand of such a unit, you’re better off spending less for a smaller, more suitable unit. The Frigidaire FFRA0511R1 is one such unit, relatively quite weak when compared to the higher end units, this small window-mounted air conditioner is the perfect unit for a smaller living space. Cooling Performance

Providing a relatively low 5,000BTUs of cooling power, the Frigidaire FFRA0511R1 is suitable for installation in living spaces of up to 150 square feet. In addition to this, with a maximum airflow of 136 cubic feet per minute, this unit is capable of removing up to 1.1 pints of moisture from the air per hour. While this unit may not be among the strongest air conditioners we have reviewed, we believe it to be the perfect choice for small living spaces.

Efficiency / Certifications

With an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 11.1, it’s quite surprising that this unit does not carry with it an Energy Star Qualification. This EER stands proudly above the 9.7 industry average. Combine this with 2 Fan and Cooling settings, and the result is a product that is quite energy efficient.

The Frigidaire FFRA0511R1 does however benefit from being AHAM verified, and UL-Listed. The AHAM verification basically means that AHAM have assessed this device, and concluded that it performs to the level of specifications published by the manufacturer. Being UL-Listed declares that the device has been tested by the globally renowned Underwriters Laboratories, and has proven itself to be safe for public use.

Convenience

Unfortunately,the Frigidaire FFRA0511R1 does not have a wireless remote control, nor does it have many of the modes we look for in an air conditioning unit. However, for the low price this unit’s on offer for, it would be foolish to expect it to come loaded out with all of the convenience based features. This model is simple, the best way possible,in that it is essentially a great air conditioner without all the bells and whistles that dominate the higher end market.

Design

Frigidaire’s SpaceWise® design means that this unit comes with adjustable side panels which will extend to best fit your window.

An anti-bacterial washable mesh filter is accessible via a side slide-out, providing a degree of air purification. It should be noted however, that the Frigidaire FFRA0511R1, despite its filter, is certainly not a replacement for an air purifier.

Weighing 41lbs, this product is certainly not the heaviest of window-mounted air conditioner units, however we would recommend that you do not attempt to lift or install this unit without help, as these types of units can be awkward to handle.

Operating at a noise level of 51.3dB, this unit is also reasonably quiet. For reference, the average human conversation registers at approximately 60dB.

Verdict

All factors taken into consideration, we found this unit to be very effective in small living spaces. While not the most powerful of air conditioning units, this particular product is perfect for what it is, an affordable alternative for a smaller space. With such a low price-tag, and certifications that tick all the boxes, you can rest assured that this unit will function properly. Our only criticism regarding this product is its lack of convenience enhancing features. However, as we previously stated, this is a forgivable offence considering the ultra-low price-tag.
