Providing the user with 5,000 BTUs of cooling power this unit would be suitable for use in living spaces of up to 150 square feet. With a maximum airflow standing at 135 cubic feet per minute, this unit doubles as a dehumidifier, removing an impressive 38.5 pints of moisture a day from the air. As far as window-mounted air conditioners are concerned, for one of this class to remove that amount of moisture is no small feat.

Efficiency / Certifications

With an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 9.7, unfortunately this unit’s efficiency rating matches the industry average, and so, would be considered moderately efficient. However, unfortunately this unit lacks an Energy Star certification. That being said, with 2 fan speeds, it is possible to save some energy and money on your bills by running the unit on its lower setting.

However, the bad news stops there, as this unit benefits from several other certifications. Being AHAM verified, this unit has been assessed by the experts, and has performed to the specifications set out by Haier. As the Hair 5,000 BTU Air Conditioner is UL-Listed, you can rest assured in the knowledge that this unit has passed the safety assessments of world-renowned Underwriters Laboratories. This means that the unit is certainly safe to use.

Convenience

With regard to convenience, the Haier 5,000 BTU air conditioner unfortunately falls short. With no remote control, the only way of operating this unit is by using the mechanical controls on the actual unit. Furthermore, the variety of operational modes available on this unit is remarkable limited, with only a cooling function, and a fan function available. However, it must be said in favour of this unit, that it is very affordable, with one of the lowest price-tags we have come across for an air conditioner. For this reason, the lack of features on this unit may be forgiven.

This Haier 5,000 BTU air conditioner contains a washable permanent mesh filter, that is easily accessible when it comes time for cleaning.

Verdict

Overall, this product is a great unit for what it is. Simple, light, and extremely affordable, this little window-mount is the perfect choice, if all you want is an AC unit that will do the basics. If you don’t want all the bells and whistles, then you certainly don’t want to be paying for them. Thanks to Haier, there is an option that saves you money, and gives you what you really wanted. We could criticise the unit for lacking certain features, however, as mentioned above, this is forgivable considering the crazy-low price-tag.
