Honeywell Air Conditioner Review

Before we begin our Honeywell Air Conditioner Review, we would first like to clarify that the first two units on this list are swamp coolers, instead of your typical air conditioner unit. The swamp cooler is an energy-efficient alternative to the traditional cooling units we have reviewed on this site, as they lack a compressor, which consumes a significant amount of energy. Instead, these units are capable of providing cooling through the evaporation of water within the device. This moistens the air, and delivers a natural-feeling cool effect to an area, in this case indoor or outdoor. For this reason, we recommend the use of swamp coolers in conditions that suffer from low humidity (60% or less), due to the humidifying double effect.

Honeywell Air Conditioner Review – Honeywell 1540

The Honeywell 1540 indoor/outdoor evaporative cooler is the perfect solution for providing cooling in dry desert climates. Not only cooling the air, this unit will effectively cool spaces by evaporating water, introducing moisture into the air without dampening its surroundings.

Efficiency & Certification

The Honeywell 1540 is not an air conditioner, the difference being that this unit does not require a cooling refrigerant, nor does it use a compressor which will consume a lot of energy. Rather, the Honeywell 1540 provides cooling by drawing in warm air, filtering it through a wet honeycomb cooling system, which will naturally cool and humidify the air. The absence of a compressor means that this unit will function inexpensively, and efficiently. To achieve maximum operational efficiency, we recommend this unit for installation in areas of 60% humidity or less.

Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): N/A

Power Consumption: 220-Watts (Low)

Convenience & Design

The Honeywell 1540 has the added benefit of functioning as a 3-in-1 unit, cooling, humidifying, and fanning the air within its recommended range of 850 square feet. Furthermore, installation of the unit could  not be any easier. Simply remove the Honeywell 1540 from its packaging, add water or ice, plug it in, and watch it go.

Additionally, one may also benefit from Honeywell’s range of tutorial videos, alongside their detailed FAQs section.

Verdict

If you live in conditions that warrant the installation of a swamp cooler, we certainly recommend the Honeywell 1540. However, we do advise anyone living in more humid conditions to consider a portable air conditioner instead.

Honeywell Air Conditioner Review – Honeywell CO25AE

Similar to the Honeywell 1540, the CO25AE is another of Honeywell’s impressive swamp cooler range, suitable for servicing dry, desert air. However, the Honeywell CO25AE is not capable of providing cooling to areas as large as the 1540, with an operational range of approximately 200 square feet, in conditioners of 60% humidity or lower.

Efficiency & Certification

The Honeywell CO25AE is a reliable alternative to the more commonly known air conditioners on the market. As was the case with the Honeywell 1540 above, the CO25AE will function in an environmentally friendly, and efficient manner, which means you could save a hefty sum of money on your energy bills. As is usually the case with units of this variant, we recommend that this unit be installed in conditions of 60% humidity or lower, otherwise we would suggest considering a portable air conditioner instead.

Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): N/A

Power Consumption: 235 (Low)

Convenience & Design

Once again similar to the Honeywell 1540, the CO45AE functions as a 3-in-1 unit, simultaneously providing the user with cooling, humidifying, and fan services. With a top-loading ice compartment, set-up and operation of this unit could not be made any easier for the user. Combine these convenient design features, with a range of convenient features and functions, and what results is the CO45AE standing as one of the most user-friendly swamp coolers on the market.

Notable Features: Wireless Remote Control / Automatic Off Timer (Up To 7.5 Hours) / 6.6 Gal. Water Tank Capacity / Oscillating Louvers / Honeycomb Cooling Media / Side Handles & Durable Caster Wheels (Portability) / UV Protected & Weather Resistant / Adjustable Humidity

Honeywell provide users of their products with an extensive range of customer services. Having gone to great lengths to ensure that their support resources are conveniently accessible by all owners of Honeywell products, this manufacturer have established a customer support infrastructure befitting of a brand of their stature.

Support Resources: As mentioned above, as this unit is a Honeywell product, any owners of the Honeywell CO45AE enjoy the added benefit of being supported by Honeywell’s vast customer service infrastructure. This includes skilled and experienced customer support agents, contactable via email, telephone, live chat, or social media, FAQs, tutorial videos, and more.

Verdict

While both the same type of HVAC unit, in our opinion, the Honeywell CO45AE and Honeywell 1540 both address different sets of needs. While the 1540 is the far more powerful unit, the CO45AE packs substantially more convenient features. What this essentially means is that the 1540 is ideal for large spaces, where tight-control over the unit is not necessary, while the CO45AE is for smaller areas, where design features such as the remote control will be far better appreciated. We would certainly recommend the CO45AE in operational areas within its suggested range and humidity.

Note: It bears repeating that this unit is most suitable for environments lacking humidity. If you live in a climate with higher than 60% humidity, we suggest investing in a portable air conditioner instead.

Honeywell Air Conditioner Review – Honeywell MN10CESWW

Third up in our Honeywell Air Conditioner Review, is the only compressor-based air conditioner on our list, the Honeywell MN10CESWW does not have any humidifying functions. If you live in a climate of adequate humidity, we suggest taking a look at this unit, which we deem to be one of the best portable air conditioners available on the market to date. Providing 10,000 BTUs of cooling power, and servicing an area of 450 square feet, the Honeywell MN10CESWW is more than capable of servicing larger medium-sized living spaces. Additionally, with a maximum airflow of 212CFm, this portable unit will remove an impressive 2.8 pints of moisture from the air each hour.

Efficiency & Certification

It’s of great importance that you consider efficiency ratings when selecting a home air conditioning unit. Picking the right product will greatly reduce the amount of cash it will drain in upkeep bills. The Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of a unit has proven itself to be a reliable indicator of how efficiently a unit will perform, taking into account its energy consumption, and cooling output. With the industry average EER standing at approximately 9.7, anything that scores above 10 in this regard is to be considered highly-efficient. Unfortunately, the Honeywell MN10CESWW does fall slightly below average here, with an EER of 9.5. However, it must be noted that it is to be expected for units that put out as much cooling power as the MN10CESWW to suffer slightly with regard to efficient performance.

Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): 9.5

Energy Star Certified: N/A

Safety Certification(s): UL-Listed

Performance Certification(s): N/A

Convenience & Design

Convenient features make a monumental difference to how we operate our air conditioning appliances. While performance and efficiency is the most important aspect to be considered when selecting a unit for your home, convenient design will always give an air conditioner that edge over its competitors on the market.

Notable Features: 24-Hour Programmable Timer / Wireless Remote Control / Easy-Roll Caster Wheels (Portability) / Auto Evaporative System / 4.9 ft. Exhaust Hose

Operational Modes / Functions: Fan Only / Dehumidify Only / 3 Fan Speeds

dB Rating: 50dB

Weight: 63.9lbs

Dimensions: 29 1/3″ H x 18 1/9″ W x 15 1/5″ D

Help & Support

Warranty: 1-Year Appliance, 4-Years Compressor Limited Warranty.

Support Resources: As is the case with any Honeywell-manufactured product, the Honeywell MN10CESBB portable air conditioner is backed-up by an extensive range of customer support services provided by Honeywell. These include experienced customer service agents contactable via email, social media, telephone, and live chat through the official company website.

Verdict

With its range of convenient features and high cooling power output, the Honeywell MN10CESBB portable air conditioner is a fine unit choice for any home living environment. Easily moved from one room to another, the MN10CESBB lends flexibility to the user with regard to how they operate their cooling appliance. Unfortunately, the MN10CESBB does lack a Sleep Mode, which is one of our preferred settings usually incorporated into the final design of many portable units. However, this oversight may be forgiven considering the above average performance achieved by this unit with regard to its cooling performance.
