Last Updated: January 31, 2022Has the expansive air conditioner market got you feeling trapped in a maze? Check out our comprehensive Midea buyers guide, and we’ll show you the way out.
Midea, founded in 1968, can now boast being one of the most successful private companies in all of China. Originally a manufacturer of bottle lids, the Midea group built its empire through hard-work, and self-betterment. At the centre of this vast empire is their air conditioner manufacturing. With a track record like theirs, we thought it only fitting that our team of seasoned air conditioner analysts compile a comprehensive buyers guide for our readers. Check out our full Midea Air Conditioner Review below where we run through eight of Midea’s formidable home air conditioning products.
Midea Air Conditioner Review
Before we get into our Midea Air Conditioner Review, it should be noted that with several of these products, there are several pieces of information that we were unable to uncover at the time of this review, especially in the case of certifications, such as the UL-Listing, or performance certifications such as being AHAM certified. The reason for this lack of information is unclear to us, although this issue can arise with products manufactured by global corporations based outside of the United States. This does not necessarily mean that the products have not been certified, it simply means that certification information was not provided relating to the units we have reviewed.
Midea AKW10CR4
The Midea AKW10CR4 is capable of providing an impressive 10,000 BTUs of cooling strength, making it suitable for living spaces of approximately 450 square feet. In addition to this, the Midea AKW10CR4 will also remove up to 1.1 pints of moisture from the air each hour, allowing the unit to effectively double as a dehumidifier.
Efficiency & Certifications
While browsing the market of home air conditioning devices, it is of paramount importance to consider the efficiency and certifications earned by the unit before moving onto convenience or design. The Energy Efficiency Ratio of a product has proven to be a reliable indicator of how a unit will perform with regard to its efficiency. The higher the score the better, and with the industry average standing at 9.7, any unit that scores above 10 is considered to be highly efficient. Therefore, with the Midea AKW10CR4, you needn’t worry about your unit costing you an arm and a leg.

Verdict
Overall, we found very few issues with the Midea AKW10CR4, the most glaring of which being the lack of provided warranty information, but as we stated above, we believe that this information could be gathered by simply contacting Midea. The real star power of this unit comes from its impressive BTU output, which makes it ideal for medium-large living spaces.
Midea AKW12CR51
One step up from the Midea AKW10CR4 in our Midea Air Conditioner Review is the Midea AKW12CR51. While more expensive than the first unit on our list, it certainly improves upon its performance, providing the user with up to 12,000 BTUs of cooling power, which is the amount needed to cool a living space of 550 square feet, or a large typical family living space. Please bear in mind however, that this estimation assumes a ceiling height of 8 feet, with additional BTUs required to cool rooms with a greater height.
Efficiency & Certifications
As mentioned above, it is absolutely vital to consider the efficiency and certifications of a unit before proceeding. While this unit scores well-above average in terms of EER, with a 11.3 rating, unfortunately there is a lack of disclosed certification information, with absolutely no confirmed certification information being available at the time of this review.
Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): 11.3
Energy Star Certified: N/A

Performance Certification(s): N/A
Convenience & Design
Moving onto convenience and design, Midea pulls out all the stops with the AKW12CR51, including all of the features of the AKW10CR4 (which is already a perfectly adequate unit), and then some. Unfortunately we were unable to uncover an official decibel rating for this device, however we can vouch for its silent performance, as aided by its Rotary Compressor technology. However, there have been reports online of this product functioning quite loudly, although Midea assures us these were faulty units, and that the device should not operate at too intrusive a volume.
Notable Features: Full Function Remote Control / 24-Hour Programmable Timer / Slide-out Washable Filter / Rotary Compressor (Quiet) [Some still complain too loud] / 4-Way Directional Airflow / Electric Control Panel

Verdict
We found the Midea AKW12CR51 to be easily one of our favourite Midea units to be manufactured to date. It’s astonishingly wide range of convenient features, combined with an impressive EER, and high-powered performance make this unit a fantastic all-rounder. However, we do strongly advise contacting Midea directly for more information regarding certifications relating to this unit.
Midea AKPD14HR4
Hitting our list with a boom is the Midea AKPD14HR4, which is capable of providing up to an immensely formidable 14,000 BTUs, easily cooling spaces of up to 700 square feet. Additionally, a function we don’t come across very often at Air Conditioners Rated, this unit is capable of providing heating, as well as cooling, meaning you can use this unit all-year round. For more information on this unit’s heating capabilities, we recommend checking out Midea’s official website.
Efficiency & Certifications
Unfortunately, this unit, however powerful it may be, falls behind in terms of efficiency. This is largely unsurprising, as a drop in efficiency tends to happen with units of a certain strength. As referred to above, the industry average EER stands at approximately 9.7, so for the Midea AKPD14HR4 to score 8.9, is not exactly ideal. That being said, 8.9 is still an admirable score. Additionally, this unit is UL-Listed, which declares that it has passed the public safety related assessments of Underwriters Laboratories, the industry-renowned organisation whose stamp more or less guarantees that a unit is perfectly safe for operation.
Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): 8.9
Energy Star Certified: No
Safety Certification(s): UL-Listed
Performance Certification(s): N/A
Convenience & Design
Interestingly, the Midea AKPD14HR4 actually has less convenient features than the Midea AKW12CR51. However, this unit still boasts the most important features that we could ask for, including a favourite function of ours; Sleep Mode. What this essentially does is allow the unit to gradually increase temperatures throughout the night, saving money, functioning at a lower volume, and saving you from waking up to a frigid cold household in the morning after a night of continuous AC operation.

Midea MWDUK-05CMN1-BCK0
Unwieldy though the name may be, the Midea MWDUK-05CMN1-BCKo is capable of providing a modest 5,000 BTUs of cooling power, making it suitable for installation in living spaces of up to 150 square feet, or a small living space. While not as powerful as some of the other units in our Midea Air Conditioner Review, this unit is ideal for those who do not require the more expensive units, as they do not have a room in need of cooling that is large enough to warrant the heavy BTU output. We always advise our readers to go with the unit that services an estimated area as close as possible to their living space, as there are no benefits to purchasing a unit that is “too powerful”.
Efficiency & Certifications
With regard to efficiency, the Midea MWDUK-05CMN1-BCK0 performs quite well, earning itself an EER of 10.7, which is considerably higher than the industry average of 9.7. Unfortunately, as is the case with several units in our Midea Air Conditioner Review, there was no relevant certification information available to us at the time of this review, although, as we have stated above, we do recommend contacting Midea to double-check this lack of certifications, before writing this unit off.

Safety Certification(s): N/A
Performance Certification(s): N/A
Convenience & Design
With next to no convenient features built-into this device, this unit provides the bare necessities to keep a room cool. Without the convenient features of the more up-market units, the Midea MWDUK-05CMN1-BCK0 is retailed at a reduced price-tag, making it ideal for providing cooling for anyone working with a tight budget.

Verdict
The simplicity of the Midea MWDUK-05CMN1-BCK0 is a refreshing change from the high-tech units we are accustomed to Midea introducing us to. At a low-cost, users are now able to provide cooling to smaller spaces in their home, admittedly at the sacrifice of almost all convenient enhancements. Nevertheless, we find this unit to be absolutely worth the minimal cost, earning it a rightfully deserved place in our Midea Air Conditioner Review.
Midea MPPH-10CRN1-B10
With the ability to bring 10,000 BTUs of cooling power to the table, another awkwardly named unit, the Midea MPPH-10CRN1-B10 is fully capable of effectively cooling a living space of up to 450 square feet, or a medium-large size living space in a typical family living environment.
Efficiency & Certifications
Regrettably, once again, this unit suffers from a lack of provided information, as we were unable to uncover any information regarding any certifications that this product may benefit from. Additionally, in the case of the Midea MPPH-10CRN1-B10, we were unable to find even an EER, which is usually one of the primary specifications published for an air conditioning unit. Instead, to provide some information regarding this units energy consumption, we have included its electronic specifications with this review. Our readers have our assurance that as soon as we uncover this unit’s efficiency-related information, it will be published here. Support Resources: FAQs / Downloadable User Manuals / Representatives contactable via telephone and email.
Verdict
The Midea MPPH-10CRN1-B10 is effectively a means to introducing a large amount of BTU cooling power into any living space, however with very few convenient features to back it up. Ideal for those who require a unit that will cool a medium-large living space, without the elevated cost that comes hand-in-hand with the technological advancements of the more convenient devices on the market.
Midea MWA06CR71-E
With a moderate BTU output of 6,000 BTUs, the Midea MWA06CR71-E is capable of effectively cooling a living space of up to 250 square feet. With an output like this, we would recommend this unit for installation in small-medium family living spaces.
Efficiency & Certifications
The Combined Energy Efficiency Ratio (CEER) is similar to the EER, except arguably more accurate, as it is the more recent standard of efficiency measurement. However, the principle remains the same, the larger the figure, the better, and preferably over 10. With a CEER of 12.1, and an Energy Star certification, users need not worry about the efficiency of this unit. Unfortunately, no certification information was available to our AC analysis team at the time of this review.
Combined Energy Efficiency Ratio (CEER): 12.1
Energy Star Certified: Yes
Safety Certification(s): N/A
Performance Certification(s): N/A
Convenience & Design
With a wealth of convenient features built-into this unit, user operation could not be made any easier, giving the Midea MWAAO6CR71-E a real edge over its competitors. Including all of our favourite functions, this device is the first on our Midea Air Conditioner Review list to include Auto Mode, a handy feature that allows the unit to detect when local temperature has reached uncomfortable levels, and to automatically power on to re-establish a comfortable living environment.

Similarly to several other units in our Midea Air Conditioner Review, we could not find any information regarding Midea’s warranty coverage plan relating to this product.
Warranty: N/A
Support Resources: FAQs / Downloadable User Manuals / Representatives contactable via telephone or email.
Verdict
For a unit providing a relatively modest amount of BTU power, it is admittedly surprising that it comes with so many built-in convenient features, however, this is certainly a welcome surprise, as operation of this device is immensely improved by their presence. Features such as Auto Mode and Sleep Mode allow the user greater flexibility when it comes to the operation of their home air conditioner, which additionally aids in cutting down on energy bills.
Midea WPPQ12CR71N
One of the second-most powerful units we have reviewed on this list, the Midea WPPQ12CR71N takes the final slot on our Midea Air Conditioner Review line-up. With a formidable 12,000 BTUs of cooling power under its bonnet, this unit is the perfect solution for cooling living spaces up to a range of 550 square feet.
Efficiency & Certifications
Once again, there was regrettably no certification information relating to this unit available to our review team at the time of this review. However, we were able to uncover the Midea WPPQ12CR71N’s EER score, which is, unfortunately, below the industry average of 9.7. That being said, 8.89 is by no means a bad energy efficiency ratio, as it is still relatively quite close to the industry average.
Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): 8.89
Energy Star Certified: N/A
Safety Certification(s): N/A
Performance Certification(s): N/A
Convenience & Design
With a moderate range of convenient features, this unit is by no means the most technologically advanced product to take a slot in our Midea Air Conditioner Review. Verdict
It would seem that the Midea WPPQ12CR71N is a unit focused primarily on sheer power, and secondly on convenience. If this configuration suits your needs, then by all means, we certainly recommend this unit. With its 12,000 BTU output, and moderate range of convenient features, we found this unit to be exceptionally well thought-out, as it suits the needs of many browsers of the market perfectly. Not everyone needs, or will even use the entirety of the extensive range of features on some other units on the market, and Midea has realised this, cutting out many of the conveniences that are non-essential. It is for this reason that the Midea WPPQ12CR71N has taken a deserved place in our Midea Air Conditioner Review.
